Your First Export Checklist
Before You Find a Buyer
- Register your business with CAC
- Get a Tax Identification Number (TIN) from FIRS
- Register on the National Single Window
- Confirm your product meets Rules of Origin requirements
Before Shipping
- Apply for your AfCFTA Certificate of Origin (NEPC or MAN)
- Prepare commercial invoice and packing list
- Book a freight forwarder experienced on your corridor
- Secure payment terms in writing
- Take out cargo insurance
After Delivery
- Confirm delivery with buyer in writing
- Release or confirm payment
- File all documentation for future shipments or financing

- Confirm your specific commodity has no current export restrictions

- Apply for your Phytosanitary Certificate (NAQS)
- Confirm NAFDAC registration if exporting processed food products
- Prepare commercial invoice and packing list
- Book a freight forwarder experienced on your corridor
- Secure payment terms in writing
- Take out cargo insurance
After Delivery
- Confirm delivery with buyer in writing
- Release or confirm payment
- File all documentation for future shipments or financing
